Lumiere @ Durham 2011

Four dazzling winter evenings... Something extraordinary is happening this November as LUMIERE returns to the beautiful medieval city of Durham. For four nights only, dozens of artists, lighting designers and community groups will bring a sprinkle of winter magic to the city with a breathtaking series of installations and projections that will illuminate Durham's buildings, streets and bridges. LUMIERE is brought to you by Artichoke - best known for creating unforgettable events like La Machine in Liverpool or Antony Gormley's One & Other. We're returning at the invitation of Durham County Council, who were delighted that the first LUMIERE festival in 2009 brought 75,000 people to the city and delighted visitors and residents alike. This year's festival will be even bigger and brighter than before with 35 artworks ranging from large-scale projections, to neons, to installations using the latest LEDs, that will illuminate the landmarks, river, bridges and streets of the Durham. This year's festival includes Lux Scientia, a collaboration with light festivals in Poland and Estonia, as well as four pieces created by artists from the North East.
